Does the direction signal really need to go back to a low level between
each step pulse? I've never heard of a stepper driver that couldn't take the
direction signal being left at the correct level except when direction actually
changes. If you truly need it to work like that, you may have to write your own
code, although some CNC programs may do it as you drew it. EMC does
not do it that way.

My step rate generator only changes the direction signal when the direction
of motion changes.

I am working on a board that will provide complete machine control through
the parallel port. I had a demo of it at the NAMES show. I am hoping to make
it available for about $200, but until I've priced the parts I can't be sure it will
be doable at that price. I hope to have the first batch of the available in July.
