Weyland: In a word, NO.
There really IS NOT any "+5 VDC supplied" at/by the parallel port. The TINY
amounts you might "steal" from the logic-pins,when they are "high" are
almost-always NOT even 4 VDC (spec. down to 2.4!), and can supply only
microamperes before dropping below the min. Vcc req. of TTL or LSTTL.
Don't even THINK abowdit! You might "steal" a few mA from the series port,
if any, but how to do this is something I won't touch, even had I "memorized"
how to do so!
Yes, some of Mariss' texts seem syntax-challenged; he is clearly a bright
mind, but he should leave "communication via the written word" to those who
do that! I read what he said, and it is all "correct", yet one must already
kinda "know all about what he is talking about" to really get the point,
which the reader had, already, anyway!
