Thanks Alan, but I think I stumbled across the solution last night.
They got these here things called "regulators".
I just learned m'self 'bout'm.
Ya put yer voltage in one side, and the desired voltage comes out the other
side.
Whooda thunk it?

Anyway, looks like I can built another little circuit board with
two of these things (one for 5V and one for 12V) and I'll be fine.
(looks like an under $20 project)

I think I might be gettin' the hang of this stuff finally...

Problem is, I think I've been infected with whatever's goin' 'round.
Just when I think I've finished something (like the power supply)
another idea or discovery pops into view and I'm off and runnin' again.

The kitchen table isn't visible anymore, and the wife's gettin' worried...
