I bought some machinable wax and liked using it, but it costs as much as
aluminum. The machinable proofing foams are even more expensive.

Hardwood or even scraps of cheap pine are my choice for most test cuts.
Most of the time you will be worried about crashes caused by bad
programming, not thousandths of an inch that can't be measured on wood.

Pink foam works OK but the mess is intolerable. It attaches to everything
as a result of static charge.
