I use Dolphin CadCam. It has True Type Font engraving, or simple
engraving.
Using the Partmaster cad I can create any true type font text, and
convert this to machineable contours, this means you can just mill
along the centre line of the contour, or offset the tool to the left
or right, or you can machine the letters out as a pocket, or leave
them as islands within a pocket.
Alternativly, you can use the Partmaster cam system to create the
text that you wish to engrave. This would be using an egraving tool
(or a centre drill!), either simple fonts, or true type fonts, you
can mirror, angle, fit to contour or around an arc. No need to modify
the resulting program, just send it to the machine and press GO.

Oh, by the way, it is also an excellent CadCam system as well!
