Hurco DID patent conversational programming. I think you are
confused. That case in March of 2000, only sent it back to district
court. The latest word that I remember hearing was a joint press
release from IMTS in September 2000, to the effect that Haas and
Hurco had settled for an undisclosed amount. In other words, Haas
paid up like everybody else. Rule of law prevailed. You may wish
that Hurco and it's patent would go away, but it has not.

However if my math is correct, 1984 + 17 years is 2001, and that
might indicate that the patent is about to expire, depending on any
further twists that Hurco can get on the patent.
