I've been watching this thread with intrest bacause I am in an almost
identical position. I bought a Dahlgren System 500 engraving system
a couple of months ago. The control Box is a first generation SCU and
the software is Superpro 3.5 It works fine if you just want to do
simple text engravings but to do large engraving of photos (24in x
20in.) ect like Art Fenney then a more robust software is required. I
have not determined exactly how to approach this since the spindle
and vacume system is handled thru the present controller as well as
the Z axis which is also more of a vacuum accuator. I have to convert
this to a stepper driven arrangment. I have a taig lathe with a
unipolar driver board from Rustle Laidman the FET-3 and am
considering this as a three axis controller with Master5 as the
software. I am converting the power to my stepper motors to 12V with
power resistors to try and increase the speed which is now way too
slow. I will use the same type controller with the Dalgren System for
large engraving if I can get the speed up. Hopefully using 12V will
improve the speed, otherwise I will be looking for another controller
that can provide the speed I am looking for. Good luck with your
project and keep us posted on progress. I will do the same.
