Isn't that an awful 'feature'? I had that problem too. I put a PC in a car
to play MP3s (and GPS mapping and other goodies) and had to press the stupid
power on button every time I got in. Only thing you can universally do
would be to build a simple time delay one-shot circuit to pulse the power-on
signal. It could be done with a 555 timer, but I was too lazy. I just
pushed the button.

Some power supplies I've seen (later models) do 'remember' their power on
state. You might go to your local computer dealer and see if they have any.
