Hi,
Welcome to the group. I have converted my Sherline 5400 mill to cnc and I
am very happy with it. Now that they have the high speed pully set and the
10K rpm bearings in the headstock the type of work you are talking about
should be easy on the Sherline.
I used a Camtronics driver kit, built the power supply and use an old laptop
to controll all of it. I personally would go with the Sherline 5400 mill
instead of the 2000 unless you really need the capabilities of the 2000
mill. You would also save some money with the 5400.
