Hi Al,
Yes, you're correct, the G83 (and others) do retracts! Makes it simpler
yet!
The connect at Z's are useful if used on a controller (router?) without
the canned cycles. And they didn't cost much! Might even be needed if
there are clamps in the way, although the G98 might be all that is
needed (old Z retract).
So many ways to do it!
