Whoops.... Sorry. that means I agreed with jon.
As I was looking in the DigiKey book to find out that the Mechanical and
Optical encoders were not near as expensive as I first thought, I then
wondered if anyone has seen the application of a multi turn potentiometer for
moving axis on a smaller machine? Distance traveled and speed is based on
resistive positon of pot and how fast it is turned. Turn faster for faster
travel, turn very slow for positioning.
Well, It's just a thought.
With Econo PC controls and "how" they should be made to work, I think if the
developers put the 1.0, .100. .001 options on screen, then one could use a
mechanical or optical encoder to move the machine. So, using a keyboard
emulator, you could call up "mode" and then jog with a knob outside of the PC
keyboard/mouse envelope. Just like Sean mentioned "they come so close" right
now. FlashCuts limit here is in that they only a fixed "step" setting and
that step is whatever your resolution is. Putting more "step distance"
options in a drop down or checkbox would be easy to adapt to. Maybe the next
version..............
But, I did find that I could do this just by using the X-keys keypad and a
little extra programming of it, I just made a button call up the Point move
command and toggle thru typing in what I want including the Start move
button. So, everytime I hit the button, she steps the distance I told it to.
These little macro boxes can automate quite a few things when the software
developers never gave you the option.
