I agree, you should try to find someone locally to help introduce you to
electronics. We don't want you to fry yourself... Where do you live?
Maybe someone on-list is nearby.

Also consider your neighbourhood libary - they usually have lots of
books on beginning electronics. Poptronics magazine (incl. back issues)
would also be a good place to start.

I just did a Google search on "bridge rectified power supply" and came
up with some helpful articles.
