|This is a multitasking sime slicer, and would play hob with accurate
|motion timing! For a CNC motion control program running under DOS,
|you can't have anything causing interrupts and taking control away from

Jon -
DR-DOS is not a multitasking time slicer. It's basically a MS-DOS clone.
However, it comes with an event driven (because it can handle interrupt
driven devices, such as a serial port) time-slice multitasker built into its
EMM386 driver and provides an interface (Task Manager) to implement the
multitasking (start processes, etc.)
Having played with it (as Novell DOS-7) since beta copies were released, I
can agree that it leaves a lot to be desired as a multitasking OS. Digital
Research's earlier product DR Multiuser DOS which was built off of their
MP/M OS was, IMHO a much better multitasking OS. Still, I wouldn't use
Multiuser DOS to run a CNC machine either. Again, the interrupt latency of
some of the system clock would be something else.
