backporting EMC to DOS may not be imposible but it would be more
trouble than its worth
EMC is built up from several modules that run concurently on a hard
realtime ,preemptive multitasking ,modern operating system writen
from the start for a 32 bit environment
DOS started as an 8 bit OS that was then upgraded to 16 bit and
tied directly into the PC motherboard BIOS thru 16 bit callbacks
then further upgraded with hacks ,kludges and patches to handle
task switching ,some multitasking (with extensions) and memory
management thru more extensions
it can be used for realtime systems but it has to be written into the
program loop itself or thru yet another extension
as a legacy OS DOS has reached its limits according to the generalized
"Peter Principle" (in evolution systems tend to develop up to the limit of
their adaptive competence) and then it stopped in its tracks with no support
and no further developement planned
all the while everyone else still has to work under the "Red Queen Principle"
(for an evolutionary system, continuing development is needed just in order
to maintain its fitness relative to the systems it is co-evolving with)
so Linux is still being actively developed and improved for modern hardware
you might want to think hard about these two principles when you decide
that you 'just dont want to learn' something new
