Another sensor to look at instead of an optic one, even though more
expensive would be a proximity sensor. I got an old 86' Hurco working
and it uses one. The table has a calibrate feature that goes to the
switch and then backs the table till it reads the next encoder mark.
Also from an older toppic on jog wheels, the Hurco just uses an
encoder, with no detent, just free wheel. Jog speed is controlled
with the speed over ride nob.
