Tim: Are you a skilled experienced machinist, able to "make things out of
nuttin on a moment's notice", or see mechanical problems before they happen?
Do you have all the circuitry this "idea" will require already clear IN YOUR
HEAD, and sources for all the other parts you didn't mention at hand? Are
you mentally healthy with voluntary ability to turn away the fruit of the
grape as necessary?

Then go for it. But I counself if one, certainly two or more, of those
factors are failing, stick with steppers! A well-built stepper machine is
quite excellent (I know, I have built four, and the latest two with
bipolar/chopper stepper systems are EXCELLENT!), but more importantly, vastly
cheaper and void of 97% of the "unforeseen hassles" you WILL encounter with
the proposed "idea"!!!!!!!!!!!!!
