Tim, dont be too quick to discount a servo system. They are no more
trouble or expensive (if you use Geckos or Rutex drives) to put
together than a stepper system. Motors are just as easy to find
surplus or otherwise, and will be many times faster and stronger than
steppers for the same size.

I think that anyone who has ever built one would agree. I have built
both stepper and servo driven machines, and trust me, if you are just
buying components now, go with servos. You wont be sorry when you see
your lead screw spin up to 2500 rpm in less than a second.
