I am in with Doug. Everyone wants to turn this into something complex,
mysterious, and hard. A simple wire from a drive connector on a desktop
handles the whole thing. On a laptop the PS2 port or game port will do the
same thing.

I usually get the +5V from the gameport or internally from a
disk drive connector, if none are free, get a "Y" power connector
and then you'll have one.
I don't know about the USB (getting a connector for it is probably
problematic), but why not just get +5V from a hard disk drive power
connector (the red is +5V, the yellow is +12V). While you're at it
you can get the ground too (but try not to create any ground loops).

I remembered that you liked the one that I have on my bench. It's cheap
too.

I'm using an Abit KT7E with a 1.4Ghz Athlon to run Master5, try this

Subject: UPS FOR CNC MACHINES
I have also a UPS system with my computer, microkinets rackdrive,
and the servo products mini mill. All the system will run on the UPS
back up power, rated at 1000VA,I beleave this the right term. The mini
mill will also stay running in a blackout for about 10 minuts, so
this gives me lots of time to shut down the G-code program, then the
all the rest of the system. DAVID PONTES
