evening all,
i have just finished tuning an axis on a bridgeport retrofit project
that i am currently doing. the machine uses gecko 210's and e.m.c.
,during this 20 hours of tuning i have experienced this problem with
my stepper motors also. i had set all of the values in the .ini file
that i needed to set and the system would run flawlessly and
accurately for over an hour straight. i thought this was a good time
to set the backlash for this axis, and when i entered the value of my
backlash '.0015' the machine began to wander for no apparent reason
and began to exibit a humming sound if it didnt wander. the wandering
ususlly took place after a move or before it, you couldnt see it
misbehave while it was running, but that doesnt mean it didnt. i had
to use a 'deadband' value of .0003 to remedy this wandering. after
setting the deadband to this very small value i tested the axis again
with my backlash and it was again consistent and accurate. go
figure ????????????????
