Ballscrews transmit power very efficiently. This allows smaller
motors to move larger loads; or to move similar loads faster, when
compared to the vee-thread and acme thread type screw.
Second, since they rely on rolling rather than sliding, ballscrew
wear is reduced and life is long. A side benefit of this is that
since the screw is not wearing as fast(or as much), the "location" of
the load it is moving does not change as much as will happen with
other types of screws. In other words, repeatability of location
stays better, longer.

P.S. The precision of location and initial repeatability is NOT
necessarily better with ballscrews. "Regular" screws can be just as
accurate and repeatable as ballscrews. Also in some environments the
rolling motion of the balls in a ballscrew/ballnut creates problems.
Noise of the balls rolling, and suceptibility to dirty surroundings
are two examples.
