G-Code is a simple text file with commands direction a set of motors to move
in a synchronized manner and a set of devices (coolant, etc.) to energize or
deenergize. It is independent of the operating system you are running your
program under. Although each of the G-Code interpreters (EMC, Master5,
TurboCNC are examples) use a slightly different version of G-Code, they
generally follow the RS274 standard as their starting point.

You can use either a word processor, such as Word, Word Perfect, Word Pro,
or a simple text editor such as Vedit or even edlin, to read, write, or
modify a G-Code file.

|I am unfamiliar with both Linix and the software, but can you read
|the file in a word processor ?

|Not that it will make sense, but you would see the formatting. if it
|is in some propriety file format, it will look kooky as the nmenoics
|are calling odd characters. if it is in plain ASCII it would look
|like an orderly sequence of lines of numbers and text in neat rows.

|Of course I may be way off on how it is supposed to be saved.
