If it can't find /mnt/floppy, give the command
mkdir /mnt/floppy
and then try it again. You should never have to do this again.
If it can't identify the directory type on the floppy, you may not have
the required file system drivers in the kernel, but you can try
mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
If it says you don't have the msdos file system available, it may require
a manual load of a kernel module, or you might have to install the
msdos file system.
If it says the floppy is not of type msdos, then you may need to reformat
the floppy on whatever Microsoft OS you are using with a DOS file
system. Look in the help files for the format command, there should be
an option for the DOS or FAT16 file system.
(You can also format it on the Linux system with fdformat.)
I have been having a LOT of trouble lately with poor quality 3.5" floppy
disks. Some will only read on the same drive they were written on,
many won't even read back on the same drive. I have found them
to be practically useless for moving files.

command is
mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
If it can't find /mnt/floppy, give the command
mkdir /mnt/floppy
and then try it again. You should never have to do this again.
