Thanks for the EDM power supply info, Mdynac. Is it really that
simple? Once you have the switching frequency and pulse width set,
do you just set your power by enabling 1 to 22 current amplifiers?
I would love some more info. How long ago was this system
considered state-of-the-art? How different are modern
state-of-the-art power supplies? How much current is needed? Do
you make your own EDM pulse generators and power supplies?

You should use an adjustable pulse generator...
Mine varies from 5Khz to 52Khz......
and my pulse width is adjustable from 750ns to 2.25us
the width is the on time....
the generator sends this out to an hp2601 opto,
which in turn is applied to current amplifiers via switching
logic...
switching logic is used to enable 22 parallel current amplifiers,
which is switching -200vdc when in open gap....
more info is available...
John Elson rig is crude but effective...no offense John.....

I retrofit older idustrial EDM's with newer machine controls....
