Ken: Perhaps very obvious, but make certain the distance between the
magnet's and the reed switch's "long axes" will not vary, as this will change
the "point of firing" considerably. A reed-switch can not be expected to be
"repeatable" in an installation like this closer than a few tens of
thousandths, so relying on it for a "HOME switch" is dubious! BUT, for
"safety cut-off", it can be very reliable, of course, the contacts being
hermetically sealed, and all that.
HOWEVER, be sure you ONLY switch "logic levels" and not "stepper winding
current" with the reed-switch, else it will become one strange piece of metal
in a glass tube, not two!
