Depending on the type of machine you may have quite a lot of
variation.
So an easy way is on acme screw test the back lash.
On ball screw with servo and belt: loosen the belt a little to get
back lash.
free the table again
mount an indicator betwen column and table
and start putting load on the counterweight support.
When the indicator trips you got the point of balance. Take of some 5
o 10 pounds and you are there.
Retighten the pulley.
When you are too close to the balance point the machine starts to give
trouble with z positioning.
