If the drivers have opto-isolated inputs, then this is a 'current loop'
signal, and quite noise immune. I would think you could actually
run this 100 feet without trouble. If the wires are not twisted pairs,
though, you might develop crosstalk.

If the driver inputs are voltage-sensitive, then it depends on the
type of cable, etc. If you made up a custom cable with each signal
(direction and step) having its own twisted pair, then you might be able
to go 20 or 30 feet without trouble. but, it depends a lot on the sensitivity
of those particular drivers to noise pulses, especially on the step signal.
