Hi Les,
This thread was started after I had a chat with a knowledgeable rep at
Roton. He said they will preload the ball nut to any "tightness" the
customer wanted. He faxed a written quote within one hour of the
conversation with prices well below what you were quoted for HIWIN
components.
I had never heard of preloading ball nuts this way and wanted to get
an objective opinion.
Previously, I had discussed the preloading option with a tech rep at
THK. This is the same way they preload their LM guides. Unless I
misunderstood, preloading increases the life of the guide and is the
difference between Standard and Precision LM guides.
