loose quil

on 2003-01-19 16:17:46 UTC
Hi all,

I am doing a major maintainence on my drill and found the quill is
way out. I'm putting larger stepper on it and so have taken it all
apart.

the cast iron body shows no sign of wear nor does the quill, so I am
assuming that it was just poor QC at the factory.

I need to fill in the 0.003" gap.

this is on a dril press not a mill, so I missed it long ago.

any recomendations on how to tighten this thing up ?

I thouhgt about chrome/nickle plating or some sort of
electroplating. I am also considdering just using some shim stock.

The frame is cast iron and the quill is steel.

any ideas ?

Dave
