I just looked at the Pictures, now it makes more sense.
When you are driving the Rack and Pinion directly you do
would need a much higher gearing ratio.
Seams in your case a double pully transmition would make
sense because you would not have to change much just add
another axel for the double Pully in between.
As for the overall ratio to implement I would use the same
as you have on your x,y axses.
I do not know what you have there but as a typical example
0.2 pitch on the leadscrew and a 2:1 Pully ratio would
end up in a 10:1 overall ratio.
