No, the gecko is searching for transitions from high to low or vice
versa at the encoder A and B inputs. It sees the transitions as pulses
and if they are constant high or low, the motor will take off. The
conditions at the step and dir lines wont affect this. You can power
the encoder and if you measure the voltage from enc- to A, and move
the motor very carefully, you should be able to see it going from 0v
to 5v. Same with enc- to B. If this is working, then you might try
conecting a ground wire from enc- to the gnd that your step and
direction are referenced to. Also, be sure that the encoders are
drawing less than 50mA.
