Hi Jeff,

A signal generator (digital, square waves or pulses) can be used to
pulse the step line, and a simple switch with a pull up resistor will
switch the direction line.

I've posted (as have others) simple 555 type "signal generators" in the
list's files.

Other lines to test may be the 1/2 step line (if it has one), INHIBIT,
and the current recycle input.

If you write BASIC, or most any other language on the PC, it is easy to
write a simple timing loop to output pulses.
