All you need is a 5 vdc pulse source. I have used the 5 vdc line of a PC
power supply with a resistor load to stablelize it. Connect the +5 to
the Opto In and tap the negative on the step terminal. If you want to
reverse direction connect the negative to the CW/CCW pin and then tap
the step pin. Not fancy, but it will give the drive an input to step on.
I have also used a 555 circuit and a PIC at different times.
