Steve,
I have a write up on the rapid grind/scraping technique
on the engineering site. This is good for creating a
precision flat surface on solid stock. For the grouted
pads on structural tubing my write-up is in the message archives of this
group. I will try a search
and then see if I can post that on my website.
It was a year or so ago I think.
This method is increasingly popular with machine
builders as no machining (or machining stresses)
are applied to the structural member. One can
routinely achieve split thousandth straightness
over many feet .
