Hi Bill,
Myself and a nearby friends have these machines, 6 all together.
I am in the middle of converting my DM2400.
They are very robust for their size being solid iron.
The leadscrews are ACME with various types of self adjusting plastic nuts.
Each machine I have seen was different from all the others.
It seems they were in constant developement.
The drives are 10:1 (10T/100T gears) with 100 SPR stepper motors.
A friend is converting his to size 23 modern steppers and 2.5:1 belt drive.
I may do the same after testing the present setup.
The end bearing blocks are dowel pinned for precise alignment.
Try not to disturb this.
The machines perform very well, but be carefull to check for plugged lube
lines (again there are several versions).
The high wear item is the drive "nut" in the spindle pulley. With only 2
grooves (splines), the iron nut gets sloppy and rattles very noisily.
New ones are fabricated from brass or wire EDM cut from bearing bronze.
I have the g-code file if anyone wants it.
The belt is available (Gates).
The original electronics are largely junk boxed and new designs substituted.
I have a few pics of a DM2000 I converted if you want-off list.
