These are just one mans opinions...
First of all, a lathe generally does not require the power that a
mill does, so it's not a fair comparison to begin with.
Second, at my new job, we have a couple vf-2, a couple vf-3, and a
mini-mill. I've seen all of them take some pretty deep cuts in
aluminum with no problem. The last job I ran had an endmill at 3500
rpm and it did just fine (this was in one of the vf-3's.)
Last thing I thought of, at my last job we had Fadals and Cincinnati
Milacrons. The Fadals were able to be connected either single phase
or 3 phase. My boss didn't want to buy transformers for them so they
were wired single phase, at a loss of 40% in cutting power (according
to Fadal). So I wonder if a Haas can be run single phase, and if
that's where his problem is. Just a thought.
