The Sherline is a very flexible (ie. lacks stiffness) machine with aluminum
slides. When used under CNC, it really wears out fast. The "mini-mills"
sold by many outfits are made with iron slides, and will be a bit more
durable, and capable of heavier cutting. There's also the Taig.
