20 of the 1/4 watt in parallel would offer the 5 watts

20 of the 100k would be a 5K total at 5 watts.

20 total resistors to make a 1k circuit would need to be 20 of the
20k resistors.

Assuming that one were off to RS to get some such 'fix' it would be
smart to get what prices out the best. if 1/4 watt were cheaper, and
in stock, then that would be the best.
