Have you looked at the Microchip application notes. AN 532 is a complete
design for servo control of a DC brush motor, it includes details of a PLD
based quadrature decoder which produces the direction and movement
information for the PIC to use. Wish I understand it all but its quite a
chunk of code. The application notes and source code are on the Microchip
technical library CD or on their web site.
