My Emco turret is the same sort of system. The turret is rotated with a DC
motor. to change a tool, 12V is applied to the motor for a set time to index
it round by one tool. The supply is then reversed through a resistor to pull
the turret firmly against the ratchet. This power is left on all the time to
hold the tool in place with the resistor limiting the current through the
stalled motor. It is a little slow but seems to be pretty reliable.
