We've got it counterweighted with about 200 pounds of steel. I actually
think that makes it worse. The short gib and the long overhang is just
a very poor design.
The Z axis gib length on our turret mill is 14 inches and the knee screw
pushes straight up under the center of the knee, perfectly in line with
the spindle if you want it to be. Furthermore, the column on a turret
mill is much, much stronger than the column on an RF45/clone.
