in the way it works. If the boot track doesn't get put together right,

CD? Does that work? If so, then you are real close, and you are right,
just making the right magic incantation over LILO will make it
able to boot directly from the hard drive. If the system won't boot from
CD or floppy, then try the "rescue" boot from the CD, and see if you
can at least mount the hard drive file system and see the files.
