Hi Greg,
As a Linux/Unix operator, I would recommend you to install Linux (any
distribution will do) and play around a little bit and maybe buy a book as a
helper. The top list complaints about Linux I hear at work is totally based
on lack of knowledge, very often the negative comments are also comparisons
between the Linux machines and the Windows workstations. I see that as very
funny, there are Renault F1-cars and there are R5's but has anyone compared
them?.. ;-)
I think you can make it out, especially with the Brain Dead Inst as Jeff
wrote.
Good luck!

Hi Greg,
I used BDI (Brain Dead Install) to instal Linux & EMC on one of my
computers. It was very straight forward. See:
http://www.linuxcnc.org/bdi/
for more info.
Setting up EMC will be more of a challenge then loading it on your
PC.
I downloaded the software to my PC (I have broadband) then burned it
to CD ROM. I think you can also order it on a couple of CD's for a
minimal charge.
