And even THAT is probably not a good idea-my brain is foggy today.

I am really thinking about the effects of taking 2 coils and
SERIES-connecting them, out of phase.

Ignore all of my posts about the Parallel, out-of-phase stuff being a good
idea....

OOPS! Yeah, I see what you mean....

What I was thinking was that on the SECONDARY side, if you paralleled 2
identical windings out of phase, you would get 0VAC.

This is correct so far, but...

This isn't! First thing I'd suggest in this case is to check with an
ohmmeter
to verify that these are indeed two separate primary windings, and not a
single primary winding with a number of taps. If the latter turns out to be

the case, then a completely different approach is going to be needed.

If they are indeed two apparently identical primary windings, the correct
approach is to connect _one_ pair of wires together. Apply line voltage to
one of the windings. Measuring the voltage between the unconnected wire and

the wire of the other winding that's not tied together with the other one
should give near zero volts, while measuring across the unconnected winding

should give line voltage. If that unconnected wire shows near double the
line voltage, then the windings are out of phase with each other.
