Very approximate figures indeed - I have managed to push EMC to approx 65KHz
on a 1.8GHz Athlon box, but jitter induced by hardware constraints were high.
At this high rate, text mode or remote GUI options were deemed to be
preferrable to running a GUI on the same computer.
With entry level computers now supplied with 2.4GHz processors or faster, it
would be worth retesting to see what the practical upper limit is.
