I figured the power from the wall plug is dirty and if there is a
power surge or brief loss of power (which happens all the time to
our electrical supply) the drives would continue merrily along.
Does that make sense? The drives are powered by a separate
powersupply dedicated to them. Do you think there might be a
problem with plugging into a a UPS?
