Regarding your questions on TurboCADCAM, direction is selectable for any
cutting. You can determine finish cuts automatically or manually. I doubt
it knows what I think about, but it does help quite a bit. It does
simulation with full knowledge of ball end, round over, or other types of
cutters. It does show the resulting work in wire frame, solid model, or
fully rendered. The solid modeling includes text milling. It does not do 5
axis tool paths. It's really only a 2 1/2 D program when it comes to CAM.
With the exception of thread milling, and zig zag entry to the work piece,
it will not run the Z axis up and down at the same time it moves in X and Y.
If you like Bobcad, I'd suggest you stay with it. Any software takes some
time and frustration to learn. You're over that hump with Bobcad. Besides,
other than their over-zealous sales force, Bobcad has few vocal defenders.
Maybe it needs a few who can speak to it's virtues.
