This isn't quite right.

The G320 and the G340 have the same internal limitation of 250KHz
(250,000 counts per second). Note that that's per second, not per
minute - this is 15 million pulses per minute. A 1000-CPR (4000 PPR in
quadrature) encoder can spin at 3750 RPM before you hit that speed limit.

The pulse multiplier doesn't increase the maximum rate that can be
achieved, it reduces the step rate necessary to achieve a particular
speed. That allows software based step generators (EMC, Mach2, Ah-Ha,
etc) to get faster speeds with their limited step output rates.
Something like Jon Elson's USC can output 300K step pulses per second,
so that wouldn't require a G340 even at full speed.
