Software Question

I have been looking through the files and everything I can get my
hands on. I would like to know what DOS based files I could learn how
to make steppers run on. I have made a sinker EDM and would like to
run it from a computer. I am medically retired (r/shoulder)with time
on my hands with a drill/mill and lathe(48". Eventually I would like
to make other tools to run from as it keeps me busy and my mind off
the problem.
I am new on this subject but have a 500mhz computer with my old
Dos disc's. If I am on the wrong site let me know but any help would
be appreciatted on where to start.
