John,
use a switch to change to a pot when EDM not wanted
The pot can supply a feedrate overide (vary a volatge from 0 to +FastVoltage)
Then you get EDM and Feedrates (manually controlled feedrates).
If you use a computer controlled DAC, then you have computer controlled
G0 rate and (with software) computer controlled switching to the
simple gap control) WITH 3D motion.
