You're going to get a lot of advice that ignore that you want to 'do EDM'.
Bottom line, almost all will no 'do' edm.
You could try the software form MicroKinetics for stepper.
They said ( many years ago) thier system has been used for EDM, and the
trick was to issue a single motion pulse, then to
wait for threshold voltage before issuing another ( wait and see EDM ).
They dont sell this circuit but they may be able to supply the print,
should be a voltage divider to reduce the gap voltage, a comparator,
and a oneshot 555, maybe 5 buck worth of parts.
Likely could be applied to other stepper systems.
But for off the shelf DOS cheap systems known to work with EDM
thats the only one I know of.
High end systems exist but figger 10k$ to get the control ( less machine,
less power supply, oscillator, antiarc, oils system etc)
